Oldřich Nečas

Oldřich Nečas was an outstanding representative of Czech and European biologists of the twentieth century, acclaimed and respected in Czech and worldwide academic circles. He significantly contributed to the development of Cell Biology, the practical applications of which have largely influenced advancements in the field of diagnostics and treatment. He was awarded for his contributions in science, research, education, and organisation with many diplomas, medals, and honorary memberships in academic societies. Nečas was the author or co-author of 19 specialised monographs and many publications in international and domestic scientific journals. Dozens of years of Prof Nečas’s collaboration with Palacký University and the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry resulted in publications for the common public and textbooks for students of Medicine. Prof Nečas passed away on August 8, 2008.
